Three Ways To Structure Your Design Intensive Offers
The biggest myth about offering VIP Design Days is that they have to be done in a specific way... but that's far from the truth!
They get to BE how you want them to!
In fact, you don't have to do it in one day, you can have them be specific, and there are TONS of different models you can do. My design bestie @sianricho and I were chatting yesterday about how she wanted to start promoting VIP days on her website, but she wanted them to be more specific rather than flexible to what the client requested.
We chatted about how she could offer “website in a day” as a VIP day - where a client chooses a template from her shop and she spends the day customizing it! This is a prime example of making a VIP day work for you and your business. You get to create the model that makes sense & works for you.
The foundational element of a VIP day is being strict with your schedule, timeline, and boundaries which are HUGE for any designer or business owner.
A Few Different Ways you can offer VIP Days in your Design Business
As a design business, you have the opportunity to offer your clients a unique and personalized experience through VIP Design Days. Here, we delve into three different models that you might find useful.
1. Flexible Day
This is a typical VIP Design Day offer. The client shares their goals and priorities with you, and you work through that list within the timeframe of your VIP day.
Here's how it works:
The client inquires or books a day directly through your website.
The client sends you a list of tasks they would like to complete in order of priority.
You respond and let them know what you are able to complete on their list in a full day or if the client needs to book multiple days.
The day can be 6-8 hours of your time to work through the list of tasks the client gives you.
Final files are sent the next day.
2. Specific Day
Instead of letting the client guess what they need, you can create specific VIP services like brand in a day, or customize a template for their website in a day.
Here's how it works:
You specify what you will work on in a day. This could be a website in a day, a brand in a day, a sales page in a day, etc.
To make the process quicker to ensure the deliverables promised are done, you’ll need to either have templates you customize or have the client have styles chosen before your day begins.
This is perfect if you have a website template shop - your clients can choose the template, send you their branding files, and spend the day customizing it.
Boundaries will need to be set & communication very clear if you are unable to complete it in the time allotted due to too many revisions or the client not responding.
3. Multi-Day
If one day doesn’t work for your process, you can try to condense it over the span of 2 days, 3 days, or a even week-long intensive for your clients!
Here's how it works:
This is similar to a one-day process, but it is extended over multiple days rather than just one day.
This gives your clients more time to decide or make revisions to the project.
You’ll have to be strict about what gets done each day, and what you need from your client, and make sure feedback is done in time so that the project doesn’t extend over your timeline.
Boundaries, specific processes, timelines, and communication are going to be key to having a successful day. I’ve found the more days I have for a project or the more flexible I am, the more likely the timeline is going to go over or a client doesn’t give you content or feedback on time.
The Impact of VIP Days and Design Intensives
